Instructions
- Gather your group together.
- Say, "Today we will be working with some Dramatic Adverbs."
- Ask, "Who knows what an adverb is?"
- Solicit a couple of responses.
- If needed, explain that adverbs describe verbs or adjectives.
- They usually end in "-ly."
- They answer the questions: How? When? Where? and Why?
- Examples: Quickly, angrily, boastfully, cautiously, sweetly, shyly, laughingly, zealously, haltingly
- Explain you will give one of the participants an adverb to act out so that the others can guess what the adverb is.
- Tell the group that those who are guessing will need to tell the person with the adverb to carry out some actions in a way that describes the word they are trying to guess. Then they will watch his or her actions for clues as to what the adverb is. For example:
- Eat like the word
- Walk like the word
- Talk like the word
- Say, "The first person to guess the adverb correctly gets to act out the next word on my list.
- Play until the group guesses several adverbs accurately, as time permits.
