Instructions
- Gather youth together.
- Tell participants you will play a game similar to Simon Says, so they will have to listen closely and follow your instructions.
- Say, “When I announce the following commands, you need to respond with the following actions:
- Up = Stand
- Down = Sit
- Go = Jog in place
- Stop = Stand still
- Ask, “Does anyone have any questions before we begin?”
- Exclaim, “Ready? Go!”
- Say, “Everyone, Up!”
- Ensure all participants stand.
- Say, “Everyone, Down!”
- Ensure participants sit.
- Say, “Everyone, Go!”
- Ensure participants jog in place.
- Say, “Everyone, Stop!”
- Ensure participants stand still.
- Commend everyone for their attention and for following your instructions.
- Ask, “Who’s ready for a challenge?”
- Explain now when you say the same commands, everyone has to do the opposite. Otherwise, they are “out.” For example:
- Up = Sit
- Down = Stand
- Go = Stand still
- Stop = Jog in place.
- Ask, “Does anyone have any questions before we begin?”
- Exclaim, “Ready? Go!”
- Watch as youth try to follow your instructions.
- Call out any youth who do the wrong movement.
- Continue game play until only one person is left, or as time permits.
- Congratulate everyone for their efforts.
