Instructions
- Instruct youth to sit or stand in a circle.
- Tell youth they will be playing a game called Word Association where they will share a word they think relates to the word said by the person next to them in the circle.
- Say, "For example: "When I say 'flower,' you might say 'bee.'"
- Ask, "Does anyone have any questions before we begin?"
- Start the game by asking for a volunteer to say a word – loud enough for all to hear – to the person to their right.
- Allow youth to go all the way around the circle before telling them to change directions.
- Supervise and jump in if youth need help.
- After a specified amount of time, tell youth time's up!
- Commend everyone for their attention and cooperation.
- Ask youth:
- Does anyone remember the first word we used to start the circle?
- Who remembers the last word that was said when we finished our game?
- Were you surprised how we got from the first word to the last word?
- Did you always agree with the words the other participants used, or were you thinking of different words to associate with the words said?
